I dunno if you know or not, but if you don't want the background to be tiled, with a bunch of squares of the forest, you could go to "Template Designer" in "Layout" and change the background. I suggest looking under the "Nature" section. ;)
I would suggest adding interesting things to do on the sidebar, AND writing side-stories and starting large-scale sagas for back-story. Its what I do, and it seems to make my blog very popular!
